I have 2 Oscar’s in a 180 gallon tank, they started fighting a couple days ago. One is 6 inches and the other is 4 inches. The smaller one is missing scales, nothing else is wrong. There are also 4 silver dollars in the tank. Is fighting normal, what can I do?

Too much fighting is how much you can handle. Some folks don't mind missing scales or tattered fins. Territorial disputes are common in oscars. With your oscars fighting so much at such a young age, chances are high they won't get along unless you separate them. Moving decorations is only prolonging the inevitable for the smaller one.

Right. I kinda thought as much, I’ll see if I can re home one, not an easy task these days! Thanks tho!

I agree with Rock, personally I hate to see any amount of fighting among my fish.I don't tolerate much of it for too long before some personnel changes have to be made.

I agree. I want all my fishes happy! So sadly I’ll start looking For someone to take my big guy

I generally draw the line when the sub fish starts losing scales on the body. Nipping of the tail is indicative of territorial chasing and display, sometimes even just breeding behavior. Body shots indicate the dominant fish is actively going for the kill and the other cant defend itself. Moreover, wounds on the body are very likely to develop infections with a stressed out fish.

I think losing scales is an indication that they need separating. I agree with what been said, if they don't get on at this size then its very unlikely they will as they mature, they only get grumpier with age, something I can relate to in my later years shall we say haha.
