Hey everyone this is my first time starting a thread here at MFK. I am just getting back into the hobby after moving and selling all my old tanks. I just recently purchased a new 75 gallon tank (48x18x21) and it's currently cycling. I also have a DIY sump, thanks to MFK's great DIY section. I would appreciate your guys input if an Oscar and Birchir would be suitable tank mates in a 75 gallon.

I would like to start a Tiger Oscar out as a juvenile with it's juvenile markings still intact. It'll kind of be like a surprise to see how the adult markings look. I would also like to add a Bichir in with the Oscar. I want one with a little color, unlike allot of the Senegals I have seen. Also, preferably an upper jaw or one that will remain under 13".

Do you guys foresee any problems with this? I was thinking of getting the Bicher at around 4" and the Oscar around 1.5". Your input and suggestions for a Bichir would be greatly appreciated, if it's possible. Also, what kind of bioload does a Bichir make? Hopefully nothing like an Oscar. I also do not plan on getting a bigger tank for a long time.

You guys should of seen the face the female associate made at my LFS when I asked where the Bichirs were located.:WHOA: This was before I knew how to pronounce it, but it was priceless.

I keep a delhezi with various SA/CA cichlids including Oscars without problem so far. I feed the del in the other side of the tank when I feed the O`s, so he`s not gonna starve.

 you get smacked?

No problems that I can see, other than the oscar being greedy for feed, and the bichir having a harder time getting his fill.
I have a full grown senegal in w/an oscar for months now and they tend to ignore each other.

my friend keeps an ornate and an albino sen. with his oscar in a (hopefully) growout 55 gal. there use to be a regular senagal in there to. should be fine.

btw welcome to mfk.
