My Oscar has been battling with my parrot on and off for a while. When I got him, he was 2" and grown to over 8" all along with the big parrot. About 2 months ago, he started going mouth to mouth with her, Parrot never backing down. For 3 weeks now, he does not go anywhere without her, and stays with her all night. If he starts getting aggravated by his reflection, she bumps him away from the glass. He flipped her pot over in a fit, and then stayed next to it, like a big bumbling guy that did something stupid. She is now the boss, pushing him if he is doing something she does not like. He never mouths off to her. Is it possible they are now "dating" ? Certainly I think this is all interesting and entertaining, however probably not all rare. Picture is him of course, she is happy back there in her pot. She is big, around baseball size.

My jack dempsey and EBA act similar to your 2 fish, they will swim together a lot.

I have seen some close friendships between my Oscars and blood parrots. They seem to have an affinity for each other. There's lots of schooling and occasionally wrestling that goes on. They even sleep together. I could easily imagine an Oscar and a parrot pairing up in the absence of mates of their own species.

From a practical standpoint, the parrots love to buzz around the Oscars at feeding time and gobble all the little tidbits that fly out of their mouths. It keeps a lot of that stuff from rotting on the bottom and the parrots enjoy the scraps that are just the right size for them to eat. /side tangent
