Will an oscar be ok with my monos long term? I figured he would but wanted opinions as both my p-bass/oscar are small right now. Around 4" each.

your pbass growth rate will be much faster than your oscar so you might have some problems when your pbass are alot bigger than you oscar

Yeah I thought about that... 24"+ endless stomach pbass and 12" oscar might create an issue... hmm

I actually thought the growth rate was about the same 1" a month for p-bass right?

Feed your oscar well and he'll keep up. Mine juvie O has grown more like 2" a month the past couple months...and I'll bet it would out eat any p-bass of equal size any day(ofcourse that will eventually change...LOL!) ...he's a complete pig!:nilly: :D

..and I'd argue that if they grow up together, they will more than likely get along better when they are big 12"+ beasts... :headbang2

...oh, and keep an eye on your O and if he gets too belligerent, make sure it doesn't stress out your p-bass as they don't do well under stress....especiall young ones...

i 2nd that! My had a juvi bass that was bigger then all of my cichlids and they beat the CRAP out of him and killed him, Pbass might Flail there Mouth and gills but really dont defend against a cichlid that is gonna nip and stress em' out!!!!:WHOA:

I have two oscars, 10" and 8", in my 200 with my monos, 12" and 10", and there have been no problems. In fact my monos have now spawned on four seperate occasions and the oscars give them no trouble. I think more than anything else, space is the key.

Also, my oscars have had no trouble matching my pbass' growth up to this point, although I don't know how much longer that will last.

Thanks you give me hope. They are peacock bass(get big) so they will have their space I bought a gold oscar from rapps because I wanted something to go with them. So we'll see I guess. I'd rather not keep the oscar seperate but the p-bass are waaaaaaaaaaaay cooler.

They freakin spawned !!!! NICE.. You should pm me how you suceeded at that mine are approaching that size.

I'll get you pics when they get a bit bigger, they aren't (especially the oscar at 3-4") much to look at right now. Rapps has some pics of the adults on his front page.
