Hello, I have a serious question about my oscar. He has never been sick and I try to do everything to keep him healthy. He has an 130 gallon tank just for his own ass. I try to feed him high quality food and also put some multivitaminas on it when its possible, I also have taken a lot of photos last 2 years, so i can study his development. I have noticed that the sensory pits are totally normal, and when the oscar grows these sensory clusters are also growing (not the pits) But i have also noticed that the area under the nose is a little bit eroded (Does not looks like HLLE). It started a year ago, and these light grey spots have also grown a little bit. Has this something to do with HLLE or is it totally normal. Because I have noticed that a lot of grown up oscars have this decolouring under the nose. Because i cant find information about this fact. And now i am a bit insecure about the reason. May be it has something to do with the quick growing process or ??? Please i need to know because this fish is like a brother to me :)

Post a close up picture of the area, it would be helpful. Do you use carbon in the filter?

Its hard for me to post a picture right now, because I am at my sister house and I don't have pictures on this computer. I don't use carbon in my filter because I heard this might be a reason for HLLE (carbon dust). Maybe I chose the wrong word, because I am from holland my english is not so superior. But the nose area is not realy eroded, it looks a little bit lighter than the rest of it's head. And it's only under the nose area. When the fish colourchanges from dark to light grey, it's barely visible.

I stole this but its true!

Nitrates below 10 ppm , weekly waterchanges. That's not the problem. But when you check www. cichlid-forum.com they have a picture of an oscar with the same light dots under the nose. This looks exactly the same as mine. But like i said i have seen at lot of oscars that have the same spots. Also oscar Worf on You Tube shows these dots.

Now serious, Oscars hebben allemaal.. oh sorry, Oscars got pressure senses on and around the mouth area.
Because they feed a lot from the surface, the upper nose area has many
odd looking bumpes and holes in order to be supersensitive.
When they are getting older it may look a bit scrapy.
But I'm not going over one night of ice, so a picture would be..

he said he can not do a picture!!! geez read.
I would not say I'm a expert of Oscars in general but Oscar attend to lose some color as they become older & do attend to have health issues like many things as people do. It may just be a sign of age? Hole in the head looks like pitting or acne & can leave scaring from the disease. I would recommend having Jungle Hole In The head medicine on hand to treat it if it would start to happen? If not Jungle then a Med that has Metronidozole in it.
Keep up on water quality & good diet to prevent bad things from happening or at least prolonging it as they age.

And "the ollie oscar" has also the same dots around the nose area, but only bigger. This picture is on the same internet site, so it's easy to find. And why are you laughing? Is this a dumb question?, because its the only thing i need to know. And there is nobody in my neighbourhood who has an answer
