hello fellow monster fishkeepers,

I have 2 oscars, one is white with orange the other one is black with orange, i've had them for years,(i'll upload the pics) now it appears theyre finally mature to have babies! the other day they laid eggs on this flat rock . this was like 2 days ago..the eggs thus far, seem to growin this white moldy stuff,..i few weeks back they attempted to have babies but i had a convict and a pleco in the tank with them, the eggs turned white moldy and then they got eatin up,, right now its just the two oscars, in a 26gallon bowfront, with heater temp around 82-85 f...anyone elses oscars ever have babies, any comments or tips?

thanks everyone, this is my first post as well! :grinno:

HEy Pal ;) .m not that experienced when it comes to breeding oscars ,but here's what i know ...
1- Your oscars may both be females (a maybe)
2- A 26 gallon is even not enough space for a single oscar so i say a tank from 7f gallons and above is suitable for both ..
3- if you wanna make sure some of the eggs survive ,there is a bottle of anti-fungus specially for these conditions at any fish or pets strore ,buy it ..
4- and since you've moved your oscars into another aquarium ..you have changed or effected the mood and the water which pushed them to breed ...
5-My advice is if you want them to breed ,choose a bigger tank ,let the water age ..feed them shrimp and stuff (nurture them or set them up good :P ) put a ditther fish too ..and when it happens(you know what) you'll know when to remove the dither fish ...
..Good luck ,hope what i know is gd for you ;)

26 gallon with mature oscars? uhm you need atleast a 75 with good filtration to house those two

They may both be female. This happens, and it's not that rare. The eggs get fuzzy and someone else eats them. Are the eggs always white, or do they ever turn clear? If they're always white, and don't turn clear, they're not fertilized to begin with. As for maturity, they should have reached maturity long ago, so the eggs don't necessarily indicate anything, except that this is the first (second) time they've done it.

This is a very small tank for these fish. I can't imagine trying to keep two full-grown oscars healthy in 26 gallons. How do they even move around in there? How large are they? They should be full-grown (12 to 14 inches) by the time they're a year and half old.

The temp is very, very high. Why are you keeping it so warm? They'd be happy at 78.
