Hi all, aint been around for a while due to a new addition to the family, our baby girl born 22/6/09 ;) Anyway i wasnt sure what cichlid cat this should go under so i put it here, I have 1 largs albino oscar and for some reason he breathes out of 1 gill most of the time!!!!!!!

Is this something to worry about or should i just forget about it? I have googled it and theres a few people with the same problem. I dont really see it as a problem just he has been doing this since i got him and i got him at the size he is now, also 1 of his eyes seems to be looking down whilst the other is looking up!!!!! Im not sure weither to laugh about it or start worrying even though worrying wont help much.

Thanks in advance dudes ;)

Has he always done this? or is this something new.
I think there can be a few things that infect the gills. Can you see anything on the gills, eg flukes or redness, is he trying to scratch it on objects or acting strangly?

... I wonder, as one eye is also not well, if it has paralysis eg from a stroke? can fish have a stroke?

I was thinking along the lines of stroke too, i think they can but on another note i got him big he was lying sideways in a 4ft tank so i thought i would rescue him, so i did, he has allways been like this he sort of lies on 1 side quite often aswell but he does swim around also and he does also breath out of both gills at times. It had me thinking he had a stroke before i got him and the lying on his side was just a lazy thing that oscars do :screwy: I dunno, just thought id put it up and see if any1 had experienced the same thing with any of their oscars ;)

congrats on your new baby girl!

well, since fish have a brain, and circulatory system i bet they can have a stroke.. but there probably isnt a way to verify it.. if hes healthy, eating, and happy i wouldnt dose him with anything..

Thank You navygirl, shes a little gem ;) as for mr oscar yeah im just gonna leave him and let him be, he doesnt seem to be in any pain just looks a little weird is all

Yeah, if your O has always been like that I think you just have a special one :)

Agreed, if he's eating fine and doesn't seem to be in any sort of distress, then there doesn't seem to be any reason to worry. Perhaps he encountered some sort of head injury before you gave him a new home which caused permenant damage?
