hey all, having a slight problem.

My Oscar tries to eat, but whenever he grabs a pellet (hikari cichlid bio-gold if i recall) he takes it into his mouth, then a few seconds later spits it back out. then he tries to catch it again and it does the same thing. he seems to have no lack of an appetite at all, and hasnt shown any signs of stress or anything.

this is the second day he's done this, and ive also tried with smaller pellets and some smaller sinking pellets. same thing happens. ive had him on the hikari stuff for about a week and he used to just gobble it down. his swimming is just like normal, and i see no difference in his feces.

any idea to whats going on? or do i just have a bulimic Oscar?

he's about 4 inches long in a 55 gallon. only tank mate is a little 2.5-3" cray.

any help is appreciated!

Oscars do this once and a awhile...There is no problem at all.........Almost like a puppy playing with its ball.......I have stories of there O's playing and spitting their food for alomooist a week, some a little longer.AT for inches long, it is still young...Try varying the diet with krill, brine shrimp, Silversides, cocktail shrimp..........

+1 Do not worry they all do this from time to time.

yeah try different foods, like insects or something and see if that works, i wouldnt worry about it too much though unless he starts to lose weight or get stringy white poop

Yea, try earthworms or silversides or something just to make sure he is eating. When he is hungry enough, he will eat.

I would not offer him food for a day. Make sure he's hungry and he'll eat. GL!

thanks!

he seems to be his normal "FEEEEEED MEEEE IM STARVING FEEED MEEEE" self, but he just cant keep anything down! ill try tomorrow.

Mine did that when I switched them from gold to bio-gold, but after a few days they loved it. To keep your tank clean fast him for 2-3 days and then give him some he'll eat then.
