Hello,

My Oscar has been sick for about a week now. I have removed all of the carbon and the amonia filter, have done over a 50% water change and have tried:

Fungus Clear Tank Buddies by Jungle
Antibacterial Remedy by MELAFIX

I have been treating the tank with the Antibacterial Remedy by MELAFIX for about 4 days now. Says to do it for seven days so I will continue till i reach seven days.

His eyes do not seem to have improved and he has not had anything to eat for seven days. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Fletcher

Several things can cause cloudy eyes. Internal parasites Bacteria can infect eyes damaged by injury. The most common cause of cloudy eyes seems to be poor water quality, especially when the pH drops too low.Large fish produce a lot of waste check water first is Ph ok? If it's Anything between 6.4 and 8.0 is ok it could then heal right up without medication. good filtration is a must. If not Malofix and salt should do the job.

PH is around 6.5 - 7

Im going to put back the carbon, and amonia pad. How much salt would you add to a 125 gallon fresh water tank? Also how often would you suggest i change the water and how much?

Currently i am doing a 25% water change once a week.

Use one teaspoon of non-iodized (aquarium etc.) salt per gallon of water every 12 hours for a total of three treatments (total dose: 3 teaspoons per gallon). on my 6 ft i have put in 1 pound of salt sounds harsh but its a far cry from turning into a salt water set up.

Disadvantages. Salt treatments are:

Dangerous to most plants
Dangerous to certain fish (e.g. Corydoras catfish and snakeheads)
Removable only by water changes

as for water changes i do 25% same as you but always use tap safe or 50/50 RO Rain water
