My oscar(tiger,copper) changes color.
Its original color is black and copper, but when i turn on the lights, it turns pale..and settles down in the bottom as if its dead.
Why does this happen? and how i stop this from happening?
Water is clean. temperature maintained, everything seems allright :/

Suggest me,
I wanna know how much big tank i need to take for the following fish.
i have
2 Pacu,2 Oscars,1 GT, 2 Tinfoil Barbs.( all around 3.5 to 4 inches)
All are in a 50 gal now. and it needs regular cleaning.
Im new to fishkeeping and im about to buy a new tank in a few days.

oscars are drama queens, its normal, as long as he is still eating and everything normal then he is fine, and cichlids are notorious for changing colors with their moods. what exactly are your water parameters and how big is the O. usually larger Os tend to be more moody than younger ones

i would get rid of the pacus, without the pacus you could do that stock in like a 125 or 150 if aggression issues dont arise with the pacus you would need like 500g+ pacus get ridiculously big and really shouldnt be so commonly sold like they are

I would say you'll need at least 800 gallons to house them for life.

Ya pacus turn into freaking monsters.... I vote get rid of pacus and set the others up in a 125. Unless you can swing a 500+ gal tank financially, in which case do that and have a sweet tank.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

holy cow.
What on earth will i do with my pacus? :(
They were sold to me that they are RB piranhas.
i got em when they were really small. NOw the pacus are like 3.5 inches already in around 3 months.

THe O is around 4 inches too(with tail). It eats like a pig, and is normal when i switch of lights. It has a problem only with the light.

So far, they have no aggression issues. they have got along well.

But the Oscar Attacks the GT, and GT attacks the Pacus.
So i have kep the GT seperate.

And i really wanna know how can i keep my present 50 gal clean, for how many days i need to siphon/clean the tank and stuff. i dont know anything about these filters and stuff. I currently have put some kinda internal power Filter(Some china made,i Guess) which creates hell lot of current which i dont like.

ok well the tank is going to be very hard to keep clean with that many fish in it, once they are moved to a larger tank it will be easier, but you should definitely get a filter that is either a canister or a Hang On Back type. dont bother with charcoal as its not really necessary unless you need to remove medications or something you just need a sponge part to filter out the big particles and keep it from clogging the bio media which is where your beneficial bacteria will grow and thats what will convert the fish wastes into nitrates (which then have to be removed by water changes) there are lots of threads already on filters and the cycle of wastes etc on here you should be able to learn alot by looking at old threads using the search function to the left of the screen, most people on here do 50% waterchange once a week or 25% twice a week (i do 50% once a week when i can) but the main thing is to get a test for nitrates and do a water change whenever your nitrates start getting to high (usually good to keep them below 20ppm)
