I see all the pictures of Tiger Oscars on here that are pure black with the Orange pattern and they look amazing. For some reason my oscar is much lighter. He is not as black and the orange does not stick out as much. How can i make him get that very dark color?? Thanks

most of the time its all in the genes, so there is no way he can get that dark, deep black. if you wanted to bring out his red a little more, which will make him seem darker, feed him more shrimp like krill, plankton etc.

I find that Hikari Gold and Krill works great for coloring up Cichlids.

the oscar i got at 4" was pale colorless listless and thin
now he is a looker in my tank at 11"+
so i think good care and spirulina should do the magic

Hikari Bio-Gold+. That stuff is like magic with Oscars. As soon I started feeding it to my Oscars their growth and color took off. Along with a good varied diet you will get it to produce its best colors. Like someone else mentioned, its all about the genes though for color. But a good diet and Bio-Gold will help bring out the best your fish has to offer.
