so my roland seems to have somewhat strange colors for an oscar...he is a tiger oscar, but his "stripes" aren't very vibrant, and his dark parts aren't very dark..it's like as if he had a layer of another transparent light color on top of his regular colors. when he's in the light he's somewhat of a metallic-y reflective light slightly greenish grey. when he's not in direct light his darks seem darker and his stripes seem more orangey, but they don't seem to be typical oscar colors. like i said, he's pretty reflective. i'm not asking because i think he's sick or anything. he's not sick. he's got a very healthy appetite and swims around and he's growing very big very quickly. i'm just wondering what's up with his coloring. is he possibly not a pure tiger? just curious if anyone has an opinion on this. sorry i don't have any pictures. my camera has gone missing and i can't get very good pictures of him on my dsi.. lol

He could be a mix, he may not be a pure tiger oscar. For an example it could be that his mom was a tiger oscar and his dad was an albino. See what Im saying. He may not be pure bred. You won't know what was bred with him but you do know one of his parents was a tiger oscar. Their are many varities of oscars and colours.

yeah, i figured he was probably just a mix. i was just curious what anyone else thought, since i couldn't find anything along the lines of quite what he had for colors online i don't really care what kind he is. like chicklette said, he'd definitely part tiger. but again, doesn't make much difference to me. just curious

Genetics work a little different, if his oscar had albino (which would actually be leucistic) genes his oscar would either be homozygous tiger or heterozygous for tiger and leucistic. Both would look like a tiger, but the het would have the possibility of passing on leucistic genes.

My assumption is that he is just a uniquely colored tiger.
