well as some may know, I had my main set up for my devil/midas with a few others cichlids in there....all was going well, but the devil finally turned! he was hammering EVERYTHING in the tank! I was at the time prepared to keep him solo, but after talks with my other half we decided that we would go a different route and try a more peaceful set up as she wasn`t happy with the idea of one fish having the whole tank, I have had a few oscars in the past and do like them, especially the fact that they are pretty laid back (in general) so we discussed again and came to the decision to get two oscars and let the red devil/midas go....anyway, we let the devil/midas go the other week (he went to a shop as a display fish/shop pet) and this saturday just gone we saw a pair of oscars for sale, anyway we decided to go look, and fell in love with them instantly! they are now settled in to the tank in here (the living room) and are watching me as I type lol.....now I love my big aggro cichlids, but have to say....it is quite the breath of fresh air watching everyone getting along stress free! the plecs can actually come out again! and the other cichlids are showing much more colour, these two oscars have the most personality I have seen in the species (the ones I have kept I mean), already begging for food and eating from my hand, interacting with eachother constantly, and also very aware and interested in whats going on outside their domain....they are not the most perfect examples, one has a slightly wonky mouth and they have had HITH at some point but there is very little scarring (just a little around the nostrils and a healed dent in the side of one of their heads) but we think they are beautiful, and they are fighting fit other than that, and ooze personality! anyway....sorry for the pointless rambling! just thought I would share....and take the opportunity to thank all those who were so helpful in helping me with my midas/devils, I do feel bad that I didn`t really have amphs for all that long but it was great fun keeping them for the few months that I did! and should I be in the position to have more tanks in the future I will undoubtedly keep them again! :)

a brief (and rather rubbish) video of them

Great post. I recently went back to Oscars too. I lost my big Devil in the Hurricane last November. Oscars have great personality and make a nice display in a large species or community setting. They are underrated and somewhat berated by many do to their commonality but their popularity is well deserved. I also love Chocolate cichlids and think both species are great fish to own. I wish you much luck and success with them they look great in your tank and the stress level will be much lower with a harmonious tank where everyone isn’t hiding all the time.

Sorry to hear about your devil, but yeah I'm really happy to be an Oscar owner again! these are supposedly a bonded pair.....I'm hoping too much trouble doesn't errupt if they breed, it is amazing to see them interact with eachother though! They often push eachother around lip locking, and then swim around mirroring each other and gently rubbing eachother.....it's really very endearing! They have uncovered a long buried piece of flat slate from the sand, and doing a lot of courtship dancing over it.....so it likely is only a matter of time before they breed.

I recently got my first oscar. Always wanted a albino veiltail one so i finally ordered it. What came surprised me. As of right now no one is sure what i got. floppsy.jpg
