so i recently had my oscar die, she wasnt eating for a while and i assumed that she was being picky because i'd moved things around on her which was a regular occurrence and usually she would go back to being a pig, that didnt happen, i went away for a few days and when i came back she had a big lump right where her anus is and was breathing heavily and lethargic. she died the next day. now i'm worried about my hoplarchus pcittacus. it has also been eating very sparingly. it will eat a pellet or two that i've seen but not aggressively and sometimes i dont think it eats at all. ive stepped up water changes to try to keep it as clean as possible. i'm considering trying to dose food with metro, possibly the tank but i'd rather not because its a 125g. i dont want to try to do a dip or force feed with a syringe or anything if i can avoid it to not stress it out even more. advise?

I tried to post a pic of the Oscar but my photobucket is acting weird

Photo isn't showing.

Idk if you have a pc, but you can upload pictures from your PC easily as I've done it lots. Just start a post, click "upload a file" (next to "post reply"), then locate and click the file on your PC, then select "thumbnail" or "full image."

Sorry about your oscar! What was oscar's regular food? Sounds like a blockage.

thats what i was half thinking due to it being right at the anus and all, i've sdded some epsom salt to the water just in case but the parrot is still eating less. i was feeding xtreme monster pellets most time with some smaller extreme pellets for the catfish and blood worms for the angels (yes angels, so far so good) the oscar would eat everything. the parrot stuck to the pellets. i ran out of the monster and bought a new tub and they changed the formula, the contents on the side look pretty similar but the colour and texture was different. they ate these at first but thats when i noticed the difference. they both would eat less and less of the monster pellets until they were both rejecting them regularly. i had moved some fish out and rearranged things so i thought that was why. the parrot was still eating the big fella pellets. now it will eat maybe one or 2 that i see. yesterday it ate one, spit it. then went in and took another and it chewed that and ate from what i can tell, but only one then it hid. i tried feeding shrimp. no dice.

I zoomed in on the oscars jaw, and it looked to be extended and a bit paralyzed open(hard to tell in a still photo), was this the case? did you notice any of that?
If it was, you may know what I suspect, because its so common these days, especially in summer when tank temps heat up into the 80s
If it is, its bacterial, and needs gram neg antibiotics, and for you to try and lower the temp into the 70s.
Don't use nets or Pythons etc, from that tank on any other tanks.
With the malady I'm suspecting the fish stop eating, hangs in one spot, and the jaw atrophies.

I have not hard any luck curing that disease once its in a tank, and I know you my not want to hear this, but I usually write off any fish in the tank.
Tear it down and bleach everything, and let it sit empty for an extended period.
The risk of contamination of any other tank was my biggest fear, so my methods may seem a bit drastic to some.

you think it could be columnaris? I have had fish become sick with that before, I don't think it's the same but I will be more cautious with my nets and such. I noticed the Oscars jaw looked off it didn't seem extended like that so I'd written it off as something else. Something new to consider. Yay.
