Here are my 2 lovely new oscars :) just wondering what the best stuff I could feed them was they currently have cichlid gold and shrimp pellets daily and fresh trout and bloodworm every other day, they have the pellets three times a day also :) is this good for them or should I be giving them something else?
Thanks

That diet sounds fine to me. Oscars aren't fussy eaters and usually eat first and figure out weather it's food or not later.........lol. A high quality pellet should be the staple and the other things fed as occasional treats. Slow steady growth & a clean environment is the ticket to raising a healthy happy Oscar or any other cichlid for that matter. GL

Sounds good, another pellet that you could try would be NLS. And every other day you could offer something like small pieces of raw shrimp or krill and maybe some Tilapia or Silver sides. But IMO the best diet would be NLS, Freeze Dried Krill, and Silver sides and the occasional earth worm.

With no intention of hijacking this thread, what would be an appropriate NLS pellet size for a new Oscar, for example 3 inches or so. Because my stockist is getting Thera A so I was thinking 3 mm pellets but I'm afraid it might end up being too big. I don't have the Oscars yet since I'm waiting for them to be ordered in.

NLS is ment to be swallowed whole without the need for chewing. A 2mm pellet would be fine for a 3" Oscar. I fed my 13+ inch RD 3.5mm pellets as it's only food with no waste what so ever. With NLS smaller is better.

I have recently been turned on to mealworms, and my Oscar seems to love them. They are also very cheap, and available at most all pet stores.
