Our Oscar, Ozzie, is digging a huge hole in in one corner of our 100g. He/she gets all pissy whenever another fish comes near his corner. Ozzie is currently around 8".

I know that Oscars enjoy rearranging their tank, but this seams a little different to me. Could Ozzie be actually trying to dig a pit for spawning purposes?

Do males typically dig spawning pits, or is it mostly a female trait? We have always thought of him as just that, male. So I am curious about this digging.

i think its something they love to do, mine never stopped digging i just gave up and let the digging turn into one big hill in the corner with most the tank bare.

I'd say its quite possible. They need a large'ish flat surface to lay eggs. Fertilized or not, Female Oscars will still lay eggs.

If you have a piece of slate in your tank, it would stop it from digging for spawing purposes.

as was posted before give her a slate and she might stop digging if it is a male then that still won't stop him. hope it works for you

this is of topic but have u guys hurd of bluberry oscars?
if you google or search on this forum you will quickly find out tons of info on these and how they are cruelly dyed to be this color and those that do survive to make it to the fish store will have severely shortened lifespans and lose the color after a month or 2, DO NOT support this horrible practice
