Hey guys,
I get home from work and was welcomed by my oscars and their eggs. It's the second time they have spawned that I know of. The first time they were tank mates with 3 large 18+in pacus that disturbed the peace and the eggs were lost. This time I would like to try and raise them. I have a question, What color are oscar eggs when they're fertalized? I want to make sure it's not that I have 2 females and go forth with a lot of work for unfertalized eggs. I have included some pictures....better quality is available if needed..
Thanks,
Clayton

amber if fertiled, white if not... the parents would pick (eat) the unfertiled ones so just relax and enjoy the show and you will find out soon if there will be something.

Thanks, bud
They seem to be holdin down the fort as we speak....I've got all weekend to watch the show....They seem to be amber....But I'm so excited amber may be white and white may be amber....I don't see any fungus though...I'll keep y'all updated

Yeh amber is fertile and white is un fertile...if you want to raise the eggs/fry your self, you need a separate tank, a powerfull, but not to power full air pump and stone...then fill the tank with the water they are in now, take the rock with the eggs on out (i wouldnt like to stick my hand in the tank with your oscars lol...) place it in the new tank asap...then place the air stone near the rock, so that there is a fairly strong current on them...but dont blow them away...and then sit back and wait for them to hatch....orrrrrr jus tlets the parents do the job :D congrats man and good luck...

Interesting, I've had my pair of Oscars Spawn at least 9 times now in the past 5 months and only once did fungus build around it. I don't know why they have not fully fertilized?

I mean there are 2 other Oscars in the tank which are females too, who tend to distract them alot, but nothing yet. Ummmmmmmm.

Here is a picture of them. The Tiger is the Male and the others are females. There is a missing Albino Tiger whose mated with him before, but was not in the picture.

Anyways, I don't think I am doing anything wrong. I just guess they are just learning themselves and will eventually get it.

P.S. Thanx to Bobby Phillips on the pictures

lol I have no shortage of tanks, but I think this time I will see how well the parents do on their own. If I don't succeed then I'll try placing them into a separate tank next time. I've got a about 7-8 small (1in) texas cichlids in the aquarium as well as a 5-7in pollini, I'm not worried about either but the texas cichlids are pretty crafty....
