hey everyone.

I have an Red Tiger Oscar called Moby in a 100 gallon tank (L : 48", D : 20" and H : 24").

He is by far the greediest fish I have ever had. Every time I am in the room, he swims straight to be, constantly begging to be fed. Whenever I open the hood to my tank, he is right at the top of the water expecting his next meal aha. Whether I feed him Cichlid pellets, frozen brine shrimp, frozen krill, freeze dried krill or even freeze dried blood worms, he eats it like there is no tomorrow and constantly waits for more. Sometimes he even jumps out the water slightly to snatch stuff like freeze dried krill right out of my hand before I can get the food in the water. He also feeds straight from my hand as well. I have had him around 2 months and he has already doubled in size.

So Oscar keepers, what's your experience with Oscars in terms of feeding habits?

Pure greed, my biggest O is definitely the king at feeding time, if I don't release the pellet as soon as my hand comes into his line of vision he jumps out and hits my hand, i've also noticed on a couple of occasions that if I look into the top of the tank whilst feeding he will ignore my hand with food in it and jump at my face, they are very amusing fish.

Haha I have three oscars and they are all the same way even the poor little guy I reduced he was all skin and bone. But my big O she is definitely the one I watch out for when I feed because she splashes when I am putting the pelets in the water haha. I woke up this morning with all of my oscars just swimming at the glass trying to get my attention for food. Even though they are greedy they are the best fish I have ever kept because they have so much personality

Oscar's are very intelligent they like to eat but don't give into the begging all the time lol.

Mine's the same way. See's me feeding the other tank across the room and he goes nuts, splashing at the glass. Gets the other fish riled up as well.

that's an oscar alright. I have one around 12", splashes me on the first bite every single time because she just cannot wait for the food.

totally normal healthy/hungry oscar behaviour. it's important not to give in to the begging all the time, they should not be allowed to gorge themselves

Oscar are a true water puppy's as they are like a small pup that like to have your presence in the room and will only eat from your hand what ever you feed him .
It shares a bond with it's owner of a trust and kindness and so shall we provide him.

They definitely are an entertaining fish with bags of personality. My Oscar called Moby literally follows me across the tank xD
Took him a few weeks to get comfortable eating from hand, but now he takes the food right out of my hand no problem.

Even when I'm doing water changes, he always comes to have a look to see what I'm doing!
