I've had 2 oscars since june and began feeding them cichlid staple (floating) and cichlid gold (sinking) in september. They have always finished every pellet within about 5 min but about 2 weeks ago the green cichlid staple pellets began to go uneaten. The two of them were consuming 20 pellets of each kind but now there are always about 5-10 cichlid staple remaining. I cut their feeding down to 10 of each today to see if they were simply not as hungry anymore but again they left about 5 cichlid staple pellets. I was just wondering if any other oscar or cichlid owners have experienced anything like this and would also like to know if they will suffer nutritionally at all if I start only feeding them cichlid gold.

thanks, Ben

PS: I have both floating and sinking pellets because this is the only kind of each type that my LFS sells

There is no need to feed them both pellets, Cichlid Gold is a better formula and will cover all their nutritional needs. A little variety in the form of weekly treats (Crickets, crayfish, shrimp, red wrigglers and frozen bloodworms) will be appreciated and keep them interested in their food.

Oscars also eat fruit in the wild so you might try that as a treat as well.

thanks a lot, feed them brine shrimp, shrimp, and bloodworms a few times a week as well, I'm going to have to try fruit as well.

thanks for the input, cichlid gold it is from here on out

I bought a large bulk of the green staple, and none of my fish will eat it!
they much prefer the gold. as cacichlids says gold is fine as a staple, just spice it up a little.
i also find missing a days feeding helps keep them interested in their food (like oscars ever go of their food).
