I recently transferred my Oscar to my 200g, this was about 2 days ago now and just before she got put in the water she flipped out and jumped out of my hands and straight onto the tiles.
Its about a 4ft drop and its a big fish already and hit the ground hard. I put her back in the tank as fast as possible and she was stunned for a few minutes, and i noticed stuff coming out from her gills, and she lay on the bottom for a while. Then she was fine again exploring the new tank with my other oscar so i thought she was fine.
A good while later, the other one was comfortable and cruising around the tank fine. but the one that fell just stayed on the bottom breathing harder than the other oscar and is not eating.

Ive had my oscars for 5 years already and im really worried about her. They are a pair and we're going to spawn in their old tank and the one i dropped is the female and shes super gravid already, literally looks like she swallowed a golf ball this was already before the transfer.

I'm thinking she damaged her swim bladder from the fall cause she has attempted to move around but i can tell she sinks back to the ground. So i tried to give her deshelled peas but she isnt interested in eating.. So i attemped to put them down her mouth but she just spits them out and i didn't want to stress her more so i just left her be.. but now i don't know what to do..

Please someone help!! :(

I'm feelin' for you mate; just lost my 5 year old Oscar male last night.....my female looks lost now......

Thanks guys.
Aww man, sorry for your loss as well scarysdad.
Yeah it really sucks when you've had a fish for such a long time... and you get attached.. This fish had a great personality as well. :(
Thanks again.

sorry for the accidental drop to the floor, and subsequent loss...

Just one question though...

What was forcefeeding deshelled peas to a
dropped,
eggfilled
5+ year old Oscar,
with possible swimbladder damage,
going to do?

besides stressing it out I mean?

sorry to hear about the loss.

if it happens again, just put the fish back, make sure water is at it's highest quality, turn off the lights and hope for the best. fish dont need to eat for a long time. long enough to recover from a fall if they are to recover at all.

once had my tiger fish jump out of the tank, 7ft drop, when he finally got back in the tank, he had gone belly up. stayed that way for 8 days and finally flipped back over and started eating several days after that. so, it's possible.

weird i loss my oscar a few minutes ago i came toask for help but she just faded away she had layed heer egss about an hour ago:irked:

Sorry to hear that.

My 12" Oscar fell from about 6-7 feet height and still survived. Maybe it was just matter of luck.

im so sorry for your loss-i have an oscar and i know if that happened to me, i would be really upset. did you use your bare hands to transfer her? if so, in the future always use a net-those fish are so slippery! and easy to drop...

im sorry she passed on..
