Hello i was getting ready to get a little Oscar for my 55g. he'll only be 2"
long so don't freak out. anyway i had a UG filter and a hanging filter on the back of my tank. i thought that would be ok for now.
but when i was cleaning my tank today my eel got stuck under the UG filter and i had to take it out. and i don't want to take every thing out and start over. but if i have to i guess i can.

I was wondering if i got one more hanging filter if it would be enough filtration for an Oscar or not?
I have a 110g i just found so ill set that up when i get more time for when he gets bigger. or do something els and look for a bigger one too :grinno:

Id like to hear your suggestions plz.

What brand HOB filter do you have. For your situation I wouldn't recommend anything but an Aqua Clear 110.

It's a wallyworld special Aqua-Tech 30-60 its there biggest one. i know its not enough i was hoping that if i get a better quality one. and run them both if that would be enough?

Oscars are VERY messy fish. I have 2 of them in a 75 gallon tank with an AC110, Eheim 2217 and a power head with a sponge filter on the intake for it. and i'm looking to add more filtration to their tank.

AC 110 :headbang2

i got 2 on my 56 gallon, i love them!

Rule of thumb for Oscars is overcapacity on your filters.
External /canisters work fine.
Your fish will make a lot more mess, when getting bigger.
And he will grow bigger fast!

ditto on the AC110's! www.kensfish.com or www.bigalsonline.com both have very good pricing & very reasonable shipping charges unlike dr f's.

I had AC110 + fluval204 + sponge filter on my 72BF.

I don't like canisters espec after the fluval backwashed a lot of crud upon cleaning/siphon start up - due to design of tubes as ridged coiled tubes - strong tendency to catch/collect crud. it caused a dirty water condition & other issues.

so I just removed & replaced with 2nd AC110. now my issues have cleared up & the cloudiness & has strong water flow/suction power. also I can alternate turning one off for feeding.

many like canisters but I have found so many recommend the AC110's either as primary or additive to your tank - which is your case.

good luck.
