I was at my friends house the other day and he has a 8-9" inch oscar with a smaller jack Dempsey in a 75 gallon tank. When I went to see it I realized his oscar was struggling to stay under. He kept floating to the top and was trying to swim down over and over again. His stomach was a bit swollen too. I didn't know what was wrong with it. Does anyone know what this is? His filtration is pretty good though.

Oscar fish are very messy and the levels can change very fast. I would check your water parameters and make sure that your ammonia is not high along with other parameters like nitrate and nitrite. To be safe, you should do a %50 water change on your tank and see if that helps. http://oscar-fish.com/floating-sideways/
*Maybe look into using an anti-biotic too.. it could really help if the stress has gotten to your fish and it may be a virus of some sort.

Try giving the fish a 30 bath in a bucket of tank water using Meth Blue at 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons of water. See if that helps it's very effective for swimm bladder issues. If it doesn't help post results and we'll try somthing else. This is a good first step. Don't use the meth blue in the main tank.
