How big of a fish could a 10 inch oscar eat? Do you think a 7 inch african cichlid would be safe?

Well personaly i wouldnt mix the two simply because they dont belong together...different needs per each fish.
Can it be done...its possible, should it be done...NO

Can very much be done...the issue of different needs is true perhaps with dietary differences with some species, but I don't see why not mix haps with some of the less aggressive central americans for example. This "rule" about not mixing Africans with New World is about as useless and outdated as the inch per gallon rule

Like i said it can be done but imo it shouldnt. Just because 2 fish are able to live together doesnt mean they should.
You can say the rule is useless but to each is own i guess...

I once had a 3 inch Red Devil bully a 10 inch Oscar, i think you are safe.

Not all Oscars are so easily bested...Ive got a 10" Oscar that earned the name "Agro" because he is such a bully

Although I agree with Ginge, I try not to get too heavy into that debate. You should be fine depending on tank size...

Why shouldn't they be housed together? If you're giving that advice, at least explain why you believe so.
