I feed my oscar blood worms, shrimp, insects, and pellets. Some people say oscars should be feed plant matter or veggies too. Every source on the web indicates oscars are carnivors. What do you think?

I've been feeding my TO Hikari Cichlid Gold as a staple and then I'll give it a cube of bloodworms once a week. When I bought my TO a year and a half ago, it was about 2 inches. Now it's almost up to a foot. I haven't really fed it any plant matter and it's doing fine.

I keep my oscars with plants! Amazingly they havn't ripped them to shreads although sometimes they do rip the up sometimes. Bloodworm, daphnia and pellets are the staple

That is cool. I have heard using rocks helps keep O's from up-rooting plants. I hope to do the same, but I'm going to try some java moss attached to some driftwood.
So, the diet is ok? No pees or cucumbers? My O is about 5 years old, and 13''. Is that about right for size and age?
From everything I have read, oscars are complete carnivors. I just don't get why people want to feed their O's plant matter. Fiber maybe? My O has no problems with that. Monster poo :headbang2

i give mine staple food from hikari. I give them the algae sinker wafers for veggie supplement. They are lean and happy. Try the wafers med size from hikari.

Hakari gold is the best food for oscars to me.

That is the type of pellet I feed him. The only other food he likes more is live insects.
So is 13'' the right size for being over 5 years old? Will he reach the 16'' mark in another 5?
