hey guys i have A 2 year old huge oscar that just recently started going crazyy

he randomly out of heavens grace starts splashingg the water outt
and jumps nd smackes himself constantly with the top or decorations
he breaths real hardd when this happens but then a while after he totally relaxess like it never hAPPENED

BTW HE DOES THIS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUTT..ND TELL ME WHAT KIND OF BACTERIS OR ILLNESS IS THIS

THANKXX

Tank size/diet/tank mates/maintenance?

he's probably stressed from a small tank, lack of air flow or avoiding a tankmate

my male midas and red dragon act like that constantly, but normally to get my attention when i walk into the room. their tanks are small for their size tho and theyre trying to breed, wat do u have your oscar in? maybe he wants a female lol

well guys his girlfriend died
she jumped outtt about 8 months ago
she literary flip the top open with her strenght
so hes been alone for a year

andhes in a 55
pretty much dolo
plusz he looksz healthy he just idk goesz nutss
im thinking he might be sick or something

55g for one oscar isn't terrible, its a mature and aggressive male cichlid and its beezy committed suicide, then again u gotta wonder y she did and if he's trying to do the same thing :/ jk but seriously ammonia can be a killer but if ur doing regular water changes and maintaining the filter elements it should be stable...

we have two pieces of the puzzle so far.

55 gal/ ? / Solo / ?

What is his diet, how often is he fed

How often do you do water chances, syphon substrate, rinse mechanical filter media? etc

55 gal is ok for an oscar, optimal would be 75+
