Oscar Tummy
Do mature (dark type) oscars eventually lose their white edging? My guy is around 11" and the white margin on his bottom half is now much thinner than it used to be. This makes sense, since he isn't laying down as much new finnage every day. But his dorsal and top half of the caudal fin still have considerable margins. Now, I know he isn't growing faster on the top than on the bottom, but what ultimately becomes of these margins? Do very old (10yrs.+) still exhibit any signs of this halo or is it too narrow to see?

took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about.

my 5 year old oscar has white/clear edging all along his dorsal fin and caudal fin.
its thin. but its there. none on the lower fins though

Given the fact that freshwater fish never stop growing (given good water conditions) I wouldn't be surprised if healthy Oscars always kept that white edging. The oldest one I've got now is a little over 4, he's still got it.
