i have a 3 1/2 month old tiger oscar, he is 6-1/2 inch long currently. I was just wondering how long it should take till he is a foot long and then how long until he is finished growing i figure he will get around 16 inch long total and was wondering if that will take 1.5 years? 2 years? not sure about their growth rates.

I'd expect a 10"-12" O at the end of the first year. After that the growth rate slows considerably.

6" in 3.5 months is a crazy growth rate, even for an Oscar, how big was he when you got him? you can expect about an inch per month for the first year or so, PD is on right his size after a year. allot has to do with water quality and what you feed him. you can get him bigger per say with a high protein diet but this is not good for an Oscar and will shorten his life span, you are looking for a quality pellet with no more than 40 to 45% protein, after a year or so they really slow down, can expect little less than an a inch for the next year or 2, then allot less after that. there is a 22 year old Oscar in a Austria aquarium, he is 22 years old and 18 inches.

He grew 6.5" in three months or you've had him for three months and he's 6.5"? That kind of growth in three months is crazy! My oscar is probably about 9-10" and he's over a year old. He def wasn't 6" at three months tho.

i bought him when was a little over 2 months old and he was 3.5 inches, so he has grown 3 inches in the months and a half i have owned him. but he is in a 4,500g pond with an unlimited food supply of fish fry on top of daily feeding of hikari gold so i expected him to grow fast. I'm just new to oscars and wanted to know more about their growth rates in aquarium to get an idea of how his will be in the pond
