hey whats up i just had a few q's bout my oscar. i just got him given to me by my sister about a month ago and was just wondering how quickly he should grow he is about 1.5" maybe 2", i have him in a 20 gallon tank right now(i know he needs bigger, my b-day next month and i am getting a massive tank) right now he eats bloodworms in the morn. and cichlid pellets at night. and yea soo... any info would be really appreciated as i am new to this type of fish and have found nothing but conflicting info all over the net. - i am really a piranha man at heart.

mine grew 1.5" per month, then hit 5" and grew 2.5" a month until it hit 9" After that he slowed down to about 1" per month. They grow 14-16" and need a big tank. I'd recommend a tank of at least 75 gallons. I gave mine away to make room for festae and other cichlids. They create a lot of waste and you can expect the water in your 20 gallon tank to be tinted when the oscar is 5 inches. They love night crawlers too. (mine's fav food)

wow, thats really fast, CB! The average growth is an inch or 1.5 inches per month untill they get to about 8", then it slows to about a half inch a month. some fish slow down later though

wow...
i don't really worry bout the mess as i have piranha and they are dirty bastards. cant be worse then 2 hungry p's... really helpful info though thxs i did not think they grew that fast

one inch and up a month is the common rate

:iagree: and they usually grow at that rate until they hit 8 inches

My oscars usually grew about an inch a month until 8-10 inches. Then they slowed a bit. Had one hit 14 inches, but most hang around the 12 inch mark.
