hi guys im all pretty new at this but here goes , ive recently set up my new 600litre tank and im going to put oscars in it . the ones ive found at the fish shop in town are like and inch long max . so 4 of them swimming around is gunna look silly . how fast do they groe up ...? or should i just hunt don some larger ones . cheers

Keep the small ones....IMPO Oscars are only "out grown" as far as speed By RD's in my experience...In short keep them they grow SOOOO fast...lol

i wouldnt get loads for that size tank, put it this way mine grew from 1.5inches to 8inches in six months

From what I hear, they grow about an inch a month after 6 months their growth slows down. I've heard in a year time they range from 9-12 inches.

ok cheers guys maybe ill get a pair of oscars and some plecos , silver dollars etc . from what ive read you can feed them a high protein diet which speeds up there growth . any ideas ...?

stick with hikari as soon as you can get them on it.
i started mine out with flakes

O's grow very fast.
They love to eat, they'll eat anything they can fit in their mouths basically.
My oscar went from 4"-9.5" in about 5 months.
so buy my judgement they grow about an inch a month depending on your water changes and how you feed them.

They can grow up to 12" in a year. Food wise, try to stay away from live feeders as a main staple. Try to just give them pellets and frozen. Feeders can be used on occasion, but I'd probably give them feeders once a month.

Only feed them feeders if you quarantine them or raise them yourself not pet store bought ones. For diet I would stick to insects or cichlid food such as Hikari, Tetra Cichlid sticks. I feed mines crickets, night crawlers, meal worms once in awhile for treats but their main diet is Hikari Gold. Do not feed them insects every day, your bio load will be nasty! Bunch of big chunks of dooo dooo on the bottom of your tank.
