Oscar hanging out by heater

for the last week or so my oscar has been hanging out by the heater, just facing it and floating with his head near the surface. he isn't acting weird besides this behavior. if i go up to the glass he will rush over to greet me as always. but if i walk away he will eventually go back to staring at the heater. he does leave and will swim around and everything.


I know I have read where people have their oscars smash their heaters, and he's doing nothing with it. He has been doing a lot of rearranging of rocks and plants in the tank lately, more than normal.

but any one have a clue with why he/she would be doing this at all?

Obvious question; Did you check the tank temp? He could simply be seeking warmth.

it is at it's normal 75 degrees. That was the first thing that I checked.

Bump it up a few degrees.

I keep and breed my Os at 79-80F.

How old is the Oscar? A lot of times, younger oscars will do this kind of stuff for no real reason. They just kinda pick a spot and stick to it until they're big enough to patrol the tank with confidence

Maybe he/ she is getting picked on, what are the other tank mates.

Is there a light on your heater my O was infatuated with the light on my heater. He was pissed when I moved it to the sump moved logs and ripped up plants in his spare time lol

Does your tank have good circulation? No hot or cold spots.
