OK... I need a little help here... My Oscars normally will kill off 2 dozen feeder fish within a week, but here talely there eating pattern has slowed down a lot. I mean they will eat pellets and stuff likte that, but it seems that they have lost their appetite to live food. What do I do??? :nilly:

keep them off live food and enjoy being parasite free?

But if u must... don't feed them for a day or so. I'm sure their appetite will return.
Good Luck

Feeder fish have little if any nutrition and bring in loads of parasites. The Oscars would be much better off if fed crayfish or shelled mussels. You're playing Russian Roulette by giving them feeders.

Live feeders are really bad for them, there high in fat. I only feed live feeders one a month, some times not even that often, and there ones i breed myself, I only give them as a treat the rest of there diet is pelets, frozen peas, worms or any thing that is on sale in the frozen foods at the local fish store, they like to eat my turttles live crickets to so they will eat any thing , there is a lot of better foods then feeders.

Good Luck

Oscars love bugs and worms, just becareful if you plan on picking them up off the gournd. They could have pesticed on them.

Get him off the feeders!!
Keep the diet varied with a good staple of cichlid pellets, crickets and prawns.

Well Thanks for that advice... I needed that As most of you know, I am kinda new to Oscar Keeping and need as much help as possible. My dad had them before me in his office at work and fed them feederfish the whole time. So I just thought it would be ok. But now that I know what is better for them I will keepthem on a better diet thanks again
