i have a 5inch oscar and he is kinda of pale his color are very dule the only time his colors get real dark is when he see's me reach in the cabinet cause he knows its feeding time but other than that he is real dull is there something wrong with him if not is there something i can do to get his colors dark and keep them that way?

Is he new? Oscars tend to "sulk" until they get comfortable in their new surroundings.

We also need to know your tank size, tank mates, new tank, established tank, ammonia levels, nitrite levels, nitrate levels, temperature, maintenance schedule?

:iagree:

If you dont have any problems with anything listed above and he is not sulking then it could be from diet. Oscars color can be dramatically improved by feeding a quality high protien diet, doing lots of large water changes (one 30 to 50 percent weekly) and feeding a color enhancing pellet such as hikari cichlid gold. I had rescued a very large oscar who had terriable colors, drabbest ugly colors i ever saw, doing the things i mentioned has made him twice as colorful as he was when i got him , he looks great now and has alot of red colors popping out on his sides now that he didnt have before. The clean water is probably the most important thing you can do for your oscar , that and at least a 75 gallon tank, bigger is even better.

Yeah i feed my oscars hikari cichlid gold and staple. krill for treats. their colors are great

i dont know thw water parameters yet but im buying a test kit tommorow and i will let yall know as far as for the tank mates there is a electric blue cichlid and a gold nuget pleco
