Hey everyone!

Recently, I've noticed a white patch right above my Oscar's head and I don't know if it's HIHD. I've started doing partial water changes daily and increased the temperature.

A couple days ago, I attempted to add a Bichir to the tank, however, my Oscar swallowed it whole. After chasing my Oscar around with.a net a few times, he released the Bichir from his mouth. I've already moved the Bichir to a different tank, by the way.

I don't know if this caused stress to my Oscar, but I will attach some pictures I took and hopefully I could get some opinions from you.

The tank is completely cycled and is 75 gallons.

It just looks like a white patch so I'm not sure if my fish is sick or if it's just a scratch from tank decor.

Thanks!

Hey,

DOC's = dissolved organic compounds. These are remains of organic matter, eg, fish poo, food, slime coat, plant matter, etc, which accumulate in closed systems. When DOC levels are high, water becomes yellowy-browny discoloured and forms bubbles easily (maybe like what we see in your last photo?) until diluted via water changes, or else skimmed off bubble surfaces using protein skimmer. DOC's can also be chemically oxidized in ozone reaction chamber. Also, can prevent DOC's forming in the first place with good mechanical filtration that is kept cleaned.

(Of course, none of this replaces biological filtration which should not be regularly cleaned, unless all clogged up.)
