oscar in 55 galon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
An Oscar can go in a 55 depending on size but it probably would not make a good permanent home. But until he out grows the tank which should take a while if you start small it will work then i would upgrade to something in the 90- 125 gal. range

Just make sure you have plenty of filtration and do a lot of water changes they are dirty fish

oscar in a 55=bad idea. oscars can grow up to 14" if not even larger and the tank is only 13" wide so that equals trouble.

as for 2 oscars in a 100 gallon, it would probably work but just to be sure what are the dimensions of the 100 gallon tank? :headbang2

a 50 gallon wide would be better than a standard 55 gallon for an oscar

55 gallon is fine the first year than it becomes torture my o hit 11 inch i the first year now he in a 100 gallon that wider than a 125 .

55 gallon makes a good growout home for 1 oscar as minimum tank...but like everyone said...once they get bigger...that 12" width really sucks....I still need to get a bigger tank for my Red Devil....he's not too cramped....but he will be if he grows more...

I had to buy a 90 gallon for my Oscar once he hit 9"...then bought another one :grinyes:

75g 18"x48" better size to get if your in the market for an oscar tank

agreed, 75 is a good size for a lot of fish and a good size growout tank for larger fish, the width really sticks it to a 55, easily available and not too pricey

:iagree: 75's are great. 55's make good growouts for larger fish till they get around 8" or so but then it's time to move them into something bigger.
