In July or so Im going to be getting a 30 gallon long tank. Im using it to store the fish now in my brackish water 75 gallon for 5 days while my room is being retiled and i have to break down the tank, but after all that is done and i move everyone back to their bigger home, i will have this 30 gallon available!

Ive always seen oscars but never had the desire to keep one till now. Id really like to buy a tiger oscar (1-2") and grow him nice and big. I'd be willing to keep him alone to help his health and ensure more space and less conflicts, but is it feasible to keep an oscar in a 30 gallon? Its a long tank, and will have regular water changes and maitance... if not how long would it be suitable to keep him in a tank this small before upgrading?

a 30 gallon is not suitable for a single oscar

oscar need a bare minumum of 55 gallons with the prefered dimensions of 36 Lx 18Wx 20H

a 30 gal would be ok as a holding or grow out tank

id say a baby oscar would last afew months before an upgrade is needed

you could only really keep one for a few months in a 30g as these fish grow quick like an inch a month until they reach around 8-9 inches they also produce a lot of waste so need really efficent filters preferally externals but they are definetely worth it in my opinion

Imo get the min size tank first oscars grow way to fast a 55g long or imo a 75g should be used for a full grown O .
I've been in far to many threads to count "help my oscar is sick " "what size tank " oscars are sensitive and require good tank conditons do a bit of research first and you will see what i mean start with a google oscars and hith and you will see my point..

a 30 would only be good for a few months, as previously stated, the 'O' will grow like crazy.

What you guys talking about? You can put a 30" fish in a 30 gallon...you know, 1" of fish per gallon...Geez...don't you guys know anything?!!!!! :D

Kidding...

I agree, a little guy could be started in a smaller aquarium but would need to be upgraded into a 4' tank in the near future.
