Just wondering if youd put an oscar in a 55 gallon tank for life? Im not thinking about doing this, just wondering. I think maybe, but then maybe not depends on the oscar. If it is big then no but if it smaller yes. right? what do you say?

thanks that is just what i was looking for. Ive been conemplating building a cage for one of my bearded dragons and using its tank (a 55) as a fish tank. I think oscars are really cool, but id love to get 1 GT and i know that would work in a 55 for life. Also id put another pair of FMs, and now im geting carried away. i have not even looked at plans for a cage yet. Thhanks for the help.

yeah id say 75, i got one in a 75 and my mom is yelling at me to setup my new tank cause she says he doesnt have enough room. and its not full grown yet

55 with nothing else will do for life. Bare minimum with 75 being better.

Well, the width of the 55 is only 12in, which is the average length of the full grown Oscar, leaving the fish little room the turn around and maneuver well. I believe a 75 gallon tank is the minimum for Oscars, which is what i keep my guys in, but will upgrade to a 125g when the time is right.

I have had a 14 inch Oscar is a 55 and he turned fine. They aren't bothered by it as their tales aren't stiff or anything like that. Like I said before bigger is always better so go with a 75 if you can, but I have kept and seen Oscars happily and successfully kept in 55's their whole life...bare minimum though.
