Hey all,

I have a tiger oscar who is the main man in my tank. Today after eating his breakfast he was going for what I think is his typical morning constitional. Problem is is that he can not get it all the way out so I think. Pics are below.

My other issue is that this does not look like his normal poop. It looks larger and just all around a bit odd. No stringy white stuff so I dont think parasites. This is a newer tank but water and media was brought over from the older tank. I do have a very slight bit of amonia as the tank finishes stabilizing but it is low. I have yet to retest today and will do so as soon as I get back home.

So is this just a poop that he is having trouble passing? Should I continue to wait or should I stress him by yanking him from the tank and helping the lil guy out?

Help

OK guys I culled him into a corner to look and this is a protruded anus/intestines. What can I do to not lose this guy? I added a bit of salt to slightly raise the salinity and will add some more later as I do not want to shock the system and need to keep an eye on my catfish as well.

Is there a medication I can use? Should I just not feed tonight to give his insides a bit of a rest as my other fish can miss a meal without worrying too much. Should I boot up my 20 gallon and move him into that? I fear that he s easily stressed by moves and as such that might be a death note.

He is swiming fine and acting pretty normal. I just dont want to lose my first oscar and my albino I am sure would be depressed about losing his buddy as they are almost inseperable.

considering the age I doubt it is laying eggs as I got him as a baby about 3 months ago. That said I do not know how to sex an oscar

Though the illness of my oscar I do not fund funny. So if you dont have a solution the please refrain from commenting.

Culled him in the corner? I beleive you mean cornered him in the corner?
Anyways it looks like a prolapsed anus. A rather uncommon illness. Something regarding his feeding caused consipation which led to this prolapse. Id suggest not feeding for a week and treating with salts and increase temp. If he doesnt recover in a couple weeks unfortuantly you will have to cull. You probably want to put it in its own tank as well to avoid additional stress.
