Have you tested your water?
No
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
What percentage of water do you change?
11-20%
How frequently do you change your water?
Every two weeks
If I do not change my water...

I just walked up to my tank to see something very disturbing one my Oscars was floating and almost unresponsive I ran down stairs and grabbed stress coat+ and API Melafix when I put the melafix in he had a burst of energy and swam back to the tank please help I don’t know what to do

The fish seem to be doing a bit better also just tested the water almost 0 ammonia nitrates are a little high ph a little low should I do a water change ASAP? The fish a starting to look normal not sure if this means anything but it is very late

I just did a bit of research and I think it may be important to know this is the time he typically sleeps

How big is the Oscar and how big is the tank? I do 75% water changes every 3-5 days. I don’t keep oscars but your water change schedule seems very light compared to everything I have read here.
And just noticed...how many fish are in the tank.

hi the tank is a 75gal witch I know is small for oscars but I plan on upgrading very soon it’s weird because I keep checking on him and know he looks fine he is about 6in

Your water change schedule can only be described as poor. As a guide, on water change day your nitrate reading should really be in the orange, lighter orange the better. I doubt very much this is the case with your current water change schedule.

My advice would be to increase the volume and/or frequency of your water changes in an attempt to control your high nitrate. Once you've got a healthier schedule in place, STICK WITH IT!

Thanks a lotOk that is exactly what I will do any thoughts on why he may have been floating

For now, just concentrate on getting your water tip top, and keep it tip top. Then just monitor your oscar for any more unusual behaviour.

One more thing, you said "one of my oscars" in your opening post. What is your total stock in that tank?
