Oscar needs a couple buddys

i would consider a different tank mate for you oscar, as they can be punchey. think of something too big for him to eat, able to defend itself, possibly armoured; plec, talking catfish, honduran red cichlid, pacu or large silver dollar (possilally piranha) if you want to keep with native fish.
i kept mine orginally with a syno, until the oscar got too beat up so the syno had to go.
 
did you measure him at 5in? he looks a bit small for that but i guess you cant really tell from videos, so as for your question a single oscar needs a 75g tank so yes your 40g is way to small for 2, i suggest either getting him a 75g and just having him as a wetpet or getting like a 125g and either getting him another O friend (which they could end up hating each other especially since your O is already a little older) or just get another cichlid friend, like a severum or something else along those aggression lines and maybe a pleco or something.

dopeydiver, you shouldn't even suggest a pacu to someone who only has a 40g and is already needing to upgrade just for the O, i doubt OP is going to get a pond for that pacu and at the petstores they always make it seem like pacus are great fish for any tank

I agree, I also wouldn't suggest pacu's either unless you are planning a 450 gallon tank in your future...

I also would upgrade your tank to at least a 75 gallon for your oscar... bigger if you are wanting "buddies" for your oscar..

You have to remember that oscars are great fish and get pretty good sized and produce a ton of waste and that will put quite a bit of Bio load on your tank, it's always better to give your fish plenty of space, keep up on your water changes and your fish should provide years of enjoyment to you
 
as others have said, a larger tank is really needed just for the oscar, let alone the oscar with tankmates. if you are able to upgrade to something in the 125 gallon range then possible tankmates could be severums, chocolate cichlid, uaru, clown loaches, silver dollars, etc
