Lately my oscar has been lazing around on the bottom of the aquarium or hovering around the top... he still eats, but he isn't as active as he used to be... is this normal or could there be an underlying problem? Everyone else in the tank behaves normal and all water parameters are good... 0 ammonia and nitrite and 15 ppm nitrate... just did a water change and still no change in behavior....

Any ideas would be appreciated.

If that's all he's doing, its normal. My O will sometimes literally just sit on his belly at the bottom of the tank and do nothing. Other times, he's as active as can be.

I'd just keep an eye out for any additional odd behavior, but based on what you said alone, nothing unusual about it, based on my experience.

Ok, hopefully it's just normal behavior.

First Oscar I've owned so I don't know too much about their behavior patterns as they age...

He fits in well with my polys though.
