I want to have a pair of oscars in my 120g. Dimensions are 60x18x27.

Filtration will be fluval fx5 and an emp400

I know they grow big and produce a lot of waste but i think i have adequate filtering for them.

Can it be done?

Also do i buy a grp of 5-6 oscars from my lfs and wait fro them to pair up?
How will i know when a pair has formed?

FYI I had two 13"ers in a 100G with two aqua tech 30-60 filters doing 30-50% w/c every week........

more filter more better with these fish .........i have six of these boys .....and its hard to pair them if there are alot in a small environment ive found
i have seen eggs before ,,,,,but its been hard to find out the culprit
havent seen the vent on any fish yet
but ive suspected my jaguar for laying the eggs aswell?
good luck
its a big tank but its a small tank

If you decide to do it, use sand instead of gravel. Oscars grow so fast and its fun to feed their huge apetites. But they also take big nasty dumps. Its much easier to get it off the sand than out of the gravel and it won't become trapped out of sight degrading water quality. It might not always look pretty, but it'll keep the water cleaner.

Do your part on the water change schedule. Check into building your own wet/dry for the future. It'll increase your filtration capability and allow you to use some kind of nitrate scrubber like an algea filter or plants. I like mangroves because they work really well and I don't have to do anything for them except regular florescent type lighting.

If you're prepared to deal with the four you'll eventually not be using, go ahead and get six. Good luck!

It will take you quite some time before the oscars get to maturity, and start forming a pair. That may take a year and your oscars will have gone past the 10" mark.
i doubt if the tank will hold 6 of these guys when they are growing for a year.
Mind you getting a bunch and returning the rest after a pair had formed was the idea i started with, but i only wanted one oscar at that time.
But after 1,5 years i found a 7" Tiger Oscar, and took the risk of taking him home.
My first oscar is very laid back and non aggressive, so i took the chance.
And luckily they formed a pair .

On the other hand, if it's breeding that's the purpose, you may want to get a couple that has proven to be mates.
And with proper maintenance and waterchanges, you should be fine with 2 O's in a 120Gl.

I grew 5 out in a 4x2x2 120 with 2 fluvals 405's. I kept it bare bottom to help keep it clean. Mine pared off after about a year of age and at about 8-9" It got a little rough once or twice for some of the less dom fish but all in all no problems. After 2 started to show signs of interest I pulled the other 3 out. I plan to keep these 2 in the 120 for a little while to breed since they are smaller right now. Might move them to a 6' 125 later down the line. I have a post in the photo section of them doing there dance and some pics. F1 Peru Oscars....
