over the last couple of days, this oscar in my tank has started to act funny. it is always first to the side of the tank to beg for food and doesn't seem to know when he is full. it is always looking for food in the tank and never even considers hiding or swimming away. now all it does is hide and doesn't have its usual hunger. when it does decide to come out it just kinda floats and looks unwell. i attributed some of the hiding and scardeyness to the new addition of a stingray as it is a bit bigger than it and its his place in the hierarchy has changed but then today its fins are clamped and it has this massive white bit of poo hanging out of him which looks seriously unhealthy..... can anyone help me out here???:nilly:

Water parameters? Size of tank? Kind of ray? Chemical treatmeants? Food? Feeding schedule? Water change schedule? Filtration? We need information to help you other wise we have no idea what the hell is going on. Any other behaviors you concerned about? Describe them fully. White poo is very unhealthy.

over the last 4 days i have dropped the pH from about 8 to 7.3 using seachem discus buffer
water parameters are ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 7mg/l
tank is 6x2x2.
fish is about 5ins long
no treatments
food - earthworms, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, ocean nutrition cichlid deluxe, hikari cichlid gold.
water change about 30% a week as the tank is heavily understocked
filtration is FX5 and small eheim external
and ray is 7" and bought as guyana and im 99% sure its a humerosa and ray was treated for parasites and such and quarantined by lfs

just checked nitrate levels again, about 60ppm! it is coming out of the tap at 50ppm! not good! i hate farmers and their chemical fertilisers and agricultural leaching! need to sort out what to do with the ray before it gets poisoned.....

the other oscar in the tank is now also looking shady and both are sitting on the bottom breathing extremely heavily. id be surprised if they make it through the night. everything else in the tank looks fine though. how weird.

im sorry to say this but ive had many fish before that have died after sitting in a corner breathing heavily also my dad has had a few have his dead.

1 try to get the nitrate sorted as fast as possible just try to get the perimeters sorted that would help alot.

that oscar looks very sick.
go buy some bottled water and use that until you can think of an effective way to get your nitrates down.
what are your readings for amonia and nitrite.

I agree use bottled water until tap parameters are better. Sorry to hear that has to suck I would be so mad if I lost my Oscars.
