I have a chance to buy a breeding pair of 12" tiger oscars... would that be worth it? they are gonna be 100$ and ive never seen a breeding pair of oscars ever.

i wanted to do a breeding project with dovii but if these are rare ill snag them up

any suggestions

Oscars are easy to come by and always sale for $6 to $10. If you can get that $100 back from the first batch, you'll get your moneys worth.

My oscars have paired off but no results yet, the female just matured and is roughly 6" the male is easily 12".

well its a proven pair and ive seen the eggs and a vid... but is it worth it? i wouldnt even know what to go about for getting rid of the fry...

Too much for a pair unless he can prove that they have viable fry and are the 2 oscars the same or is one albino? In the panhandle baby oscars are a dime a dozen one step up from breeding convicts.

I do not think a pair of Oscars is a "wise investment" from a breeders standpoint...

But if you love Oscars and are highly impressed with these two fish... paying $100 for a pair of fish that will make you happy isn't unreasonable.

there also is a chance that they can lose the bond when transferredd to a different tank

i wouldn't do it personally, unless they were beautiful oscars, like you haven't seen any that look that good. otherwise i would just buy 10 oscas hopefully get a couple breeding pairs. probably pay less this way too :P

There are a few Breeders here with O's.... We buy them here for 1-3.00 between 3-6"....

Basically The are worth as much as Cons.. BUT!! The coolness factor is High :) As although there are a few around here that breed them.. They are still far and few in between :) Just my opinion :)

yeah they are worth as much as convicts BUT the coolness factor is high AND they produce 10 times more fry than convicts in every spawn which means a good opportunity if you have the market for it.
I made about $600 out of my pair within 2 spawns during the previous summer.

BTW, as said before, sometimes oscars lose the bond after rehoming, in the other hand, some pairs that never spawn before, start massively spawning after rehoming!
