Hey guys, our Veil fin Oscar has just been moved to a larger tank and in the last week has gotten significantly more black on his fins. He has always had some black on his pelvic fins but now its appearing everywhere. I was wondering if it is anything we should be concerned with or that its just his adult colors coming in? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

their could be a problem but most likely it would be its adult colours coming out or he could be stressed they can change colour wen stressed not dramaticaly like to green or red just darken my tiger naturaly has black fins jet black

Ok, I figured it wasn't that big of a deal, hes also not eating quite as much as he used to but his poop still looks normal...no pics yet either but I could get some if anyone thinks I need to...hes also an albino veil fin with black covering about half his fins...and I would say hes roughly 5"-6" in length

Eating mostly pellets (hikari gold) with the occasional freeze dried krill and frozen bloodworms

Also he lives with a little male flowerhorn thats about a quarter of his size but they get along great

He is probably just adjusting to the new tank. Oscars don't like change but just for the sake of it what are your water paramaters? ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/ph

pH-7.0
nitrite-2.0 ppm
ammonia-1.0 ppm
keep in mind its the first week of the cycle too and we did a water change tonight.

Another thing that came to mind was fluorescent lights are now being used where as incandescent were used before, plus more of his orange is coming out as well.

He always had some black in his fins before and there are no signs of common illnesses (heavy breathing, red sores, deteriorating fins, parasites, etc.) plus he's acting pretty normal...will try to get pics up sometime this weekend

still eating fine too

And these two on September 19,2010

As you can see, there has been drastic color change in his body and fins
Sorry about the angle, old computer and can't rotate

I know black fins can be signs of ammonia damage but the ammonia is at 0.5ppm
nitrite at 1.0 ppm
pH-7.0

What ya think?

sometimes my oscar becomes rele black to but it goes away hes just mad or stressed, mine usually does it when i clean the tank and move his stuff around.
