I have had my two oscar's now for about a year. They are about seven inches long and I have them in a 75 gallon tank. They have gotten along great until just recently, I guess maybe their adult personalities are starting to show. Just wondering what I should do to subdue their aggression. Should I rearrange the tank to throw their territories off? Thanks for any help.

You could try to set the tank up differently but I honestly don't think it will work in the long run. One will always come out as the dominant fish and a 75g simply is not large enough for fish that don't get along.

yea that might work for a shourt while, but not permenantly. You should get a divider or a bigger tank somthing in the 100+range

:iagree:

You could add a smaller tough cichlid like a JD, although it will increase an already large bio-load. nothing a couple of 400's and frequent water changes cant fix. if you give the jd a place to hide he will survive , and a new pecking order will be in place. worked like a charm for me untill i upgraded.

What sort of aggression are they showing? They may also be going through the mating ritual. Are they inflicting damage or is one being excessively bullied? If thats the case then I would try such as already said and go for a larger tank.

You can try to place some tall plants in the middle as a devider to block some vision across the tank. I agree that the aggression may be spawning behavior or it could be that they are fighting to see who is the dominate one. If it is domaniance then the 75g is too small. I have a 150g and I have some aggression; lip locking and some chasing. In the meantime you could rearrange the tank all around and keep the lights off for a couple of days, turn the lights on and just watch to see what happens. Chances are its just the personality kicking in. I would suggest another cichlid thats semi-aggressive but with a 75gallon tank and two oscars I wouldn't attempt it. Keep us updated and the best of luck to you!

Nice they're growing up :) For starters you could double or triple the living space say 150-225.. Or even better quadruple :)

add a devil or jag to the mix about half their size and either of those would enjoy a angrey oscer to play with

both fish want to own about 3' of real estate now that theyre growing up.No matter what you do thier territories overlap too much in that tank.
