I am receiving a free 180 gallon in a couple of days and I am wondering if 3 oscars could live in it, I am willing to overfiltrate and do all the water changes or should I just keep the oscars separate in his own 75 gallon.

Congrats on the free 180, nice score!

Three oscars could live in it if you are willing to put in the work to keep your water right, but consider this. If you get max growth on those three fish you could be looking at three 13-14" fish, not to mention their huge girth and depth. Your 180 will get pretty cramped and pretty quick. Is that really the look you want?

I'd probably opt for two in a 180, and you'll still have your work cut out at that.

As mentioned above, with three full grown Osacars the 180gal will be packed. Too packed for my liking; I would recommend just one ~14" Oscar (with dithers) in that tank, but that's my preference.

Also note that as they get bigger, Oscar aggression increases. Three full-grown Oscars in a tank that size could lead to a warzone. If two happen to pair off then the third one will likely get battered.

The only safe bet is having just one (full-grown) Oscar in that tank, or two that are paired. Paired Oscars, whether breeding or non-breeding, should get along well.

I usually think of a 180 gal as a minimal size tank for 3 adult oscars, with no other fish, as long as enough water changes are done to hold nitrates down to no more than 5 ppm.
My oscars are young so I'm gonna try it and if I see agression I'll put him back in the 75

Also assuming they don't fight for space when they're adults. Good deal the extra tank just in case. Can't emphasize it enough that O's don't like being crowded. Considering potential size/mass, that 180 is less than 60 gals per fish...dats a lotta meat and bioload for sure. Get used to black filter media!

I'm gonna see what happens if UT does not work out I will have a backup tank on standby

Hello. I have my 14 inch Oscar Big Boy in a 125 by himself. He takes up the tank.
