Ok so i have a 42 bowfront planted tank. I have a 3-4" oscar and a 4" RTC and i introduced a parrot fish and some new plants etc to disrupt the oscars territory. However he wouldnt leave the parrot fish alone so this morning i got a red devil equal size to the oscar so that the oscar wouldnt pick on the parrot anymore. When i dropped the red devil in it took a good minute or two for the oscar to search him out and then the standoff began. Now my question is, after the 20 min lip locking battle and displays ended will the red devil co exist fine or should i put him in a tank by himself? He doesnt seem to care about the oscar much now that he is the dominant fish and my parrot is actually swimming around now. My oscar hasnt been damaged but if the red devil wont be satisfied i want to relocate him if i should before he damages my oscar. Thanks for your input.

thats not even relevant to the conversation

actually it is very relivent. your first sentence from your first post makes it so. your cichlids are not going to grow as fast as the rtc you have in there. they will be eatten. thus your compatibility should be a lower concern until that rtc is out. besides the fact that a 42 gal isnt gonna last long, so wait 2-3 months for the rtc to out grow the tank and tankmates. after that happens then you can add lots of wood and rocks to break it up. though that tank is not big enough to have a successful comunity with an oscar. all of that is, like i said, very relivent, but you have done the proper research to know this right?

Ya, you're going to need everything but the blood parrot out of there at somepoint. Those four could probably do ok for now in like 150. Like they said, the RTC is going to eat all three of the others if you let it. Catfish eat shoes...

I'm also surprised your blood parrot doesn't show more aggression. They're usually angry little bubbles from what I've seen. My 2" used to start fights with my 14" pacu. Unfortunately, when I added my red devil, the parrot stopped swimming around and got ate because the pacu I have eats anything that doesn't move. Up till that point, they lived together for like 3 years at those sizes.

If you're not partial to any of the four, you could leave the parrot in the 40 and keep the oscar and red devil in a bigger tank 100+ just fine or any of the other three on their own. Your RTC is gonna need a pond or lake if you don't want to stunt it's growth. They're not going to last long at all in the 40 together though.

what i am saying is you have to walk before you can run. what happened to you aro, though sad is an example of what happens when you try to jump out of the moving car and run fast so you dont fall. you are doing what i did before when i just started out. i was gung ho on getting everythin at the same time. if you pace yourself you can accomplish more.

knew as soon as i scrolled over this post a saw rtc it would be worth a read lol... seriously that rtc if fedd will hit 18inches in around 12months... good luck, ive done the same before and quite often keep rtc's then move them on once they are bigger so im just as bad!
