Today I discovered that my 2 Oscar pairs have both layed eggs overnight.
The eggs are at either end of the tank. Good news is that these are my top quality singapore oscars

Bad news is that I don't have any free tanks and this is my first experience with breeding oscars

This lay is on a rock:

This lay is on the bottom of the tank:

Not sure if I should leave them in the tank or get rid of the devil in the 2' and use it as a breeding tank. I suppose I could wait until they hatch and syphon them into a fry cage.

Here is an overview of where the 2 pairs laid their eggs yesterday:

Today both pairs ate their eggs! My hatchery wasn't ready so there was little I could do to salvage the eggs:

Oh well, I'll be ready next time. At least I know I have breeding pairs.

good luck next time. Nice O's

Thanks guys. I've got the hatchery set up:

I set up a hatchery to use the next time my Oscars lay eggs. I planned the hatchery so it could be set up quickly and easily. I put the sponge filter in my sump so it will be cycled all the time and ready to use.

Parts:

  • 9 Litre food container
  • 25W heater
  • "Quiet" air pump
  • 1 meter air line with:
    • Non-return valve
    • T piece
    • Airstone
  • Bubble lift sponge filter

nice emergency try tank you have there.

Good call with having the sponge cycle in the sump. I would also recommend filling your fry tank, when the time comes, with water from the tank the breeding pairs are in.
