Been awhile since I've been on, hey everybody. Question for you all, what is the biggest oscar you personally have seen. I am talking verifiable size not what your second cousins next door neighbors fitness coaches nephew said. Have not personally seen one much past 12 inches but have heard of a little bigger. Just had someone on a totally unrelated forum telling me that with bigger than a 75 gallon tank, proper diet and good food oscars commonly reach 20+ inches. When pressed for proof, ie pic, he had traded away wonder oscar for a beer fridge without ever taken pic of said fish. He did offer a pic of a comparable tilapia as proof, or some monster catfish. After telling everyone tilapia are not known to grow past 15 inches but his are almost that big. Or recommending bullhead cats as they only get to 10 inches. And this all started with talking pacu.

I don't believe that Oscars will reach 20" regardless of what size tank they are in. I have had a few, they were my intoduction fish. My kids still own one each, the biggest i have seen is 14", i think that's a decent size Oscar.

Also claimed to have once kept a 3 foot nurse shark against all claims to the contrary. Only gave it away to a zoo after titing of the food and saltwater bill.

20"+? Maybe with some sort of steroid that I am unaware of. The largest O's I've seen in person were a bit over 15", but judging by their body shape, they were all probably quite old (it seems that oscars start to become somewhat triangular as they age). 13-14" is pretty common though.
