For years i have been drooling over Oscars. Finally after finding a nearby college that meets my academic needs while also allowing me to stay at home [who else is going to care for my tanks properly?], I have decided to go for it. However, currently the only place my family members will let me put the oscar is in my music space. Where i will be playing my drum set/banjo/ having band practice occasionally [acoustic]. My "music space" is in the basement, which has concrete flooring [which will be a real blast to level!]. Might this loud sound agitate the oscar?

also sand or stone?-please explain why you think so (i have yet to decide what i'm going to use)

the noise might annoy him but if you start with a small one he should get used to it, might freak out with the movement tho! stones will be easier to clean, sand sometimes gets syphoned out too much.are you thinking albino or other?:D

My oscar has had no issues with loud sounds. I've never seen him act any differently.

my fish react to vibrations, like the motor on the fan. We had to move the fan off the top of the aquarium because the peacock bass were freaked out, it's sitting on top of a dog box now..

but they don't seem to give a damn about music, no matter how loud we turn the stereo up.. but i don't think the hubby has turned the big stereo all the way up since it's been here..

I've been thinking about getting a tiger. thank you all for the advice!

As long as you are playing good tunes he'll stay happy. Start playing Blink 182 and he'll probably break the glass with anger.

I keep my fish on sand. I don't find it hard to clean at all. Just hold the tip an inch or so above the poo and it's all good. I find most of the time because the sand doesn't hide the poo like gravel, it just rolls around the tank until it runs into a filter.

The only problem I ever have with sand is with my butti digging and spitting it into the intake. You could have the same problem with your oscar. They all love to redecorate. I just cap the intake with a hunk of filter sponge or tie a piece of panty hose on. That will strain out all the big stuff that will get and and stop your filters from running.
